Chemerinsky and Irvine

Brian Leiter has the best summary I’ve yet seen of the Chemerinsky / UC-Irvine fiasco.  I had the pleasure of meeting Professor Chemerinsky a couple years ago, and it’s difficult to imagine a better choice to give a new law school instant credibility.  Chemerinsky is almost universally respected as a scholar and a lawyer, he’s an extremely personable fellow, and he’s an excellent speaker.  No matter what his political leanings (and these can’t have been a secret to anyone when the offer was made), it was quite a coup for Irvine to snag him.  And it’s hard to imagine who would take the job now.  Perhaps Alberto Gonzales is available…

Irony Lives

According to this article in this morning’s NYT, Warren Jeffs is being held in the Purgatory Correctional Facility. It’s excellent enough that Utah has a Purgatory Correctional Facility, but it’s even better that Jeffs is being held there.
